Jen's Underground Supper Club

So last Saturday (14th April) it was the IMU Ball 2012 but it was also the day that we were going to Aunty's Jen Underground Supper Club! ! ! It was my first radio contest that I called up and won.

So we were told that we could only be there at 8pm. The dinner was at their own home. Natasha immediately knew who I was when we rang the doorbell and I was quite surprised but I knew why towards the end of the night.

Since not everyone arrived yet, we just chilled at their living room along with 2 other couples. Shortly after, everyone arrived and we were assigned to our seats. The seating arrangements has its purpose.

The purpose of organising supper club is to meet new people and to socialise, basically to mingle. The boyfriend and I sat next to Vanessa and Ben. Vanessa is Jen's daughter and she was told to experience what is to be like on the other side since she's always helping out. We both got to know Vanessa and Ben more. They were really nice and it was great and fun.

As for the food... ohhh myyyy... they were sooooooooo deeeellicciiiooouusss!!!

We had like too many yummy starters that prep our stomach just right for the entree and satisfied it with 2 amazing desserts. Wanna know more about the menu? We tried to take pictures for every dish but we failed because the food was too good and made us forget to take photos.

Starters:
1) Mushroom Tartlets and Pecan cognac Brie on French (loved the mushroom tartlets!!)

2) Solothurn Boats

3) Arancini
4) Madeleines with crème fraiche and caviar

5)  Toasted almond-encrusted creamy chevre cheese and succulent grape truffles (this one was like ferrero rocher)

7) Portobello Mushrooms

Entrees: There were 2 options
1) Roast Beef with Yorkshire Pudding and Grilled Coloured Peppers, pumpkin
2)
Posh Fish and Chips (Stuffed Salmon with Fennel and potatoes al forno)

The boyfriend and I both had the salmon and it was yummmmm. I love salmon.

Desserts:
1)  French Pastry with Pralines and/or blueberry (picture is showing the pralines)

2) Pecan Apple Crisp with Ice-cream (my all-time favourite pie: apple pie)

The whole night it was just eating and anticipating what the next dish will be while chit-chatting away. It was a very lovely night indeed. The ambience is cosy and very relaxing. Christian Palencia (her son) came to serenade us with his singing. He's going to release his first EP this year, he wrote this song and sang it and I really like the chorus, have a listen:

It was only at 12am when we left Aunty Jen's place. We took pictures with Jen and Vanessa. We didn't take it with Natasha :( so we will be back to make sure we take it with her. She was such a nice waitress informing us what each dish were, making us feel at home. It was a very nice pleasant experience and a lucky opportunity to have.

SO....

THANK YOU CAPITAL.FM & TO AUNTY JEN & NATASHA!!

Wanna know more about Jen's Underground Supper Club? (click) Like their page and follow their updates.

They have open bookings so do make a reservation with them to experience it!
It's worth it even though you might have to pay some $$$.
Would be great for Mothers' Day, celebrating with your better half for whatever the occasions may be or just needing a night to relax.

YOU should definitely check it out!!!

Boost Juice Bar

Yesterday, after dinner at Pavilion with Sharon, Jess and the boyfriend at Cafe Takahashi @Tokyo Street, we were walking about.

Went to an art gallery and saw this artist called 'Soe Soe'. She does acrylic on canvas.
AND OMG, did we all LOVE the painting. It was so bright that I would love to wake up to it every morning.
It was for RM20,000. If only I had that sort of money.

Then we went to the basement where all the foods were.. we were just casually walking when the boyfriend saw something at Boost Juice Bar.

He saw this...

It's the "What's Ya Name Game"
I knew nothing about it, but he did.

So apparently, if you name is either "Lin or Yin" you get a free juice! Yes, free!! I was in disbelief.
You get to choose the flavour and even the size!!

Of course, went for the biggest size possible. *ngekngekngek*

It was a pretty good fruit smoothie. Chose some blueberry, sorbet, yoghurt, apple juice and etc. smoothie.
So, watch out for you name to appear! or you can suggest it on the Facebook page of Boost Juice Bar

Even if your name don't appear, I still would highly recommend you to try the smoothies!!
Its so damnnnnn delicious!!!!

Now, I feel TRIPLE good.

Although it is grammatically incorrect, I do feel extra good tonight.

WHY?

Not only because I finished my research oral presentation but also...

Because......

Do you guys remember my previous post about asking you all to like my picture for the SOMETHING RED contest?

Well, thank you to everyone who "LIKED" the photo because without you lot I wouldn't have won the first week weekly contest!

Yes, I do agree my picture is a bit random.
I was trying to catch how the flower was moving due to the wind.
It didn't really turn out like that.
Although, I did receive some positive feedback from some people saying it's a pretty photo or a calming photo. Thank you for the positive feedback! Means a lot.

Shout out to the boyfriend, the sister, and the best friend for helping me to promote!!

Had a relaxing night out at Sri Petaling Pasar Malam with the 2 other housemates who were also done with the research presentation.
Jess sadly had yet to present hers on Thursday.

Thus, this is why I feel TRIPLE good ;)

I FEEL GOOD

This is how I feel right now --->

Why?

Because I just finished my research oral presentation! woOT.

March - The Best Month of the YEAR!

The month of March has been AWESOMEEEEEE!!! You wanna know why? Because............

1) My first win in a radio contest

Yes! I was listening to Xandria and Liang on CapitalFM 88.9 (Jambreak) and on the show was Aunty Jen and Natasha talking about Aunty Jen's Underground Supper Club. Exclusive dining where everything is kept a secret including what you will be eating for dinner. It sounds very interesting as I was listening to it. Then, they said they were giving out 2 invites to go for it. So I tried calling the first time they were giving it out but failed. Then, the second time they were giving out the invites again, I called. And to my amazement, I got through and I was the first caller through!!!!!! I was shocked and stunned. (I sounded so down at one point that they don't I wasn't excited about winning it! -.-)

So I was super duper happy and it made my day! I have yet to go dine at Jen's Underground Supper Club which will be happening on 14th April! Can't wait! :)

2) I was a winner in the Dealmates Buzz Deal Crazy Potato

The Buzz Deal is basically a deal where you buy whatever the deal is for free and try you luck in winning it. It was a Crazy Potato deal. Only had one day to go collect it so we did @ midvalley.

Can you spot my name? hehe.

It was so-so. I think Ireland's Potato is better although I only ate it once.

3) I finished my research data collection

Doesn't like being pricked
Yes! It's been 5 long weeks of waking up and having to go to uni at 530am in the morning to start the research at 6am. Even I had to do that during the weekends :( But finally, its over!! I can enjoy my weekend sleep and longer hours of sleep. However, now I have to start to analyse my result and I have no idea how :(

4) I went to the Premiere of "The Vow"

I was able to go all because of the boyfriend winning 4 passes on CapitalFM 88.9!! I was bugging him the whole week to call in as I wouldn't be able to win anymore as they probably have blacklisted my number for the coming weeks.

So you had to be the 8th caller through and luck was on our side and he got through twice! Once was when he was the first caller through and so he tried again and he was the 8th caller through!!! It was real amazing and I was unbelievable happy because I was so excited for this movie!!

You know what's so cool about all this? We got to watch it before the rest of the Malaysians! We invited Jiahui and her boyfriend to come watch with us - kinda like a double date?

For those that didn't know, "The Vow" is a move inspired by true events. Below, is a picture of the real couple where the story was inspired from. The woman (Krickett Carpenter) till this day do not remember but she is still with him (Kim Carpenter).

5) Two Birthday Celebrations

On the day of my 21st Birthday, I had BANGING on the door at 12am by my lovely housemates and friends. I was already sleeping because I was real tired. They prepared a special card and a cake for me. I was very blur (not typical).

We went to Yakult, field visit for FSM. At night, the boyfriend took me to this Mexican restaurant. It was very filling! The whole time I was anticipating some sort of surprise because I "knew" he was secretly planning something but I just didn't know what. At the end, there was no surprise.

Then on Friday, the boyfriend tried to trick me by saying that we're going to one of his friend's house for his "graduation party". I half believed him and in the end I got surprised when we reached Desa Park City. They were really good at it. A little boy holding a 2 and a 1 balloon came up with his grandma to pass it to me. And then the grandma wished me Happy Birthday...then moments later, the whole lot popped up behind. I didn't even see them running about.

We were playing with the helium gas afterwards.
Thank you to everyone who came and helped planned it. A big thank you to the boyfriend who has been organizing the logistics and making sure people had transport. Arranging an event is hard! *NO DOUBT - learnt from Health Promotion Week: my upcoming post*

MARCH IS the BEST MONTH EVER!!!!

Charles&Keith Warehouse SALE!

Yes, it's still happening, so go there if you're looking for your pair of heels!....BUT

Beware:

  • It's last season's stock
  • Limited sizes
  • It's messy
  • Need patience for asking the size you want but they weren't bad today (I read some negative comments for the first day sale)
The queue before entering
With Edna, Iris

There were lot of people there but the queue to enter into the basement parking of the Wisma GBA was quite fast. Once you enter, they will give you a bag to hold all the goodies you want. The was a lot of heels and not much on flats and sandals. Bags and accessories was also limited.

The crowd

Size of the shoe is also limited. The pair you see might be the last pair and might not be in a good quality so it's up to you whether you want to spend on it. But I advise you to do some walking around the area as the size of the same shoe might appear in another section of the place. The price range for everything there is from RM19-79. Nothing much over RM100.

I didn't end up buying any shoe, although I had my eyes on one. The first one didn't fit well. Then later, saw another one - the same one that Iris was going to get (and now has). I couldn't decide because I was thinking "Do I really need it and do I LOVE it".

My principle when it comes to decision time during shopping :

I ask myself "Do you LOVE it?" Emphasis on the love.

It helps me make decision (sometimes)

Could have been...

Two more days left to get your hands on some heels. Go go go go! What are you waiting for?

Don't these shoes look like as if they've in jail - locked up? but no, they' just lost their other half.

They're looking for their owner!

KONY 2012

So lately, I've been reading a lot of people's status about KONY 2012. But, I HAD no idea about it. This idea explains it all. It's 30 minutes long but it's worth it to watch because now I know who Kony is. Do watch!

Pricking people

I have been waking up at 515am every weekdays for the past 2 weeks and I have to continue doing this for the next 3 weeks to come.

The reason why?

RESEARCH!

Fazli (my research partner) and I only started our research 2 weeks ago (finally!) as we faced with number of bumps on the road. We have Research as a module and I really don't mind it EXCEPT not during this crazy busy killing semester 6! There's other demanding modules as well like MNT Practical and Health Promotion.

Assignments + Class Tests + Projects + Research = Not a good mix.

There's just no time.

Week 9 now and I have yet to analyse my data and write my thesis.
However, I have to thank all my subjects for being so willing to participate in my research, waking up early and getting pricked (many times), donating their blood and eating too much slices of bread. Without them, I would be screwed.

Black Star

Yesterday, I......

--> Took a taxi by myself for the very first time
--> Bought a new lab shoe :D
--> Went to a "real" concert for the first time.

I took a taxi to Sunway Pyramid in the afternoon to go do 2 things: go to Photo Crafts to return the CD that was blank when there was supposed to my pictures inside T.T Now I have to wait extra longer for them :(

Secondly, to go buy new lab shoes because my old was was in such a horrendous state that I had to and was happy to throw it away. I wanted a real good quality one because I also would be wearing them almost every day next year for my final year attachment postings. So in the end, I bought it from Hush Puppies. 10% discount off if you buy with certain bank cards or jusco cards.

It's plain black because senior said that FSM attachment is really strict. It NEEDS to be black in colour and better not have any clips or design at the front because they will consider that as a physical hazard. So to all who are wanting to buy a new lab shoe, opt for a plain black one although it does not look as nice as other colours or design. It better last me a loooooong time! Will wear it tomorrow.

After getting those 2 things, I met up with kopisusu, we had kebabs and watched some figure skating competition (I guess I could also cross that off my bucket list) then we left to go watch Avril Lavigne @ Stadium Merdeka. Before leaving we went to the bathroom, no queuing issue and I found this on the wall and thought it was meaningful:

It was so jam to get into downtown KL. Moving like 1km in 25minutes but eventually we got there. It was real packed. Avril appeared at like 900pm and sang for about 1 hour and a half. It was the last day of her Black Star tour.

This was how small she was from where I was standing (this is not my picture, got it from Avril's Twitter - phone camera not of excellent quality)

She sang a mixed of songs from all different albums. It was great because we all could sing a long with her, screaming my lungs out. Feels real good! What didn't feel so good was the standing...the aching-ness. It was worth it though.

Thanks to my surpriser for surprising me with the tickets :)

Rosmah & Her Ph.D

So I JUST found out that our country's PM's wife was awarded a Ph.D from Curtin University this morning.
And now, EVERYONE mostly Malaysians I'm guessing is bombarding the Facebook wall of Curtin University.

Have a read: https://www.facebook.com/curtinuniversity?sk=wall

Simply shows the love that Malaysians have for Rosmah.
I don't know much about her but I don't hear good things about her that's for sure.

Busy bee on Valentine's Day

"Once" a year Valentine's Day is back! Emphasis on the "once" because it can be Valentine's Day everyday!

During the day, it was ND1/09 Episode 1 of Top Chef as the first batch took on the challenge to prepare the meals for their patients with a particular condition given as our case study.

Wye Li is my partner. Earlier in the semester when I first saw the grouping list for the MNT Lab, I wrote a comment on Facebook:

Me: We only have one partner?
WyeLi: Am I not enough?

BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA! She is definitely enough. It's just that I'm used to having lot of group mates for project work. This is the first time only working with 1 other person.

So this patient of ours is Indian woman, 60 years old and has diverticulosis, so we indented a high fiber, low fat diet and also making sure she receives enough fluid. We decided to cook dinner and snack for the Top Chef Challenge 1.

Dinner we gave her:
1 chinese rice bowl basmati rice with chicken tikka masala, saag, cucumber and carrot raita with rasam soup
Snack we gave her:
3 samosas with Indian Spiced tea and bananas
This was our end product:

Quite proud of our effort and cooking skills :) Next challenge: Malay man who is diabetic and has hypertension and stage 1 kidney failure. Shall update about it next week!

-----------------------------------------

So standing for 4 hours straight and barely getting to sit down, had to rush home afterwards, get change and leave the house. Went for dinner to eat before having to leave for the airport cause our friend Li Kheng was flying to Australia that night to further her studies there.

The card we made her with some souvenir smell of wan tan soup

We sent her off at KLIA. I shall miss her :( She was one of the first few people I met online BEFORE entering IMU. I wish her all the best in Newscastle, Australia. She'll definitely have fun, so no need to wish her that. Seeing how they all left yesterday in the airport made me think about if only I fought for my place to transfer back in semester 1. Hmm... its too late to go back now and what done is done.

There's a reason for everything, right?

So my kopisusu (yes it's a new name for him :D) and I celebrated Valentine's Day at the airport. We've grown old to celebrate Valentine's :P HAHAHA. He was such a sport for driving us to the airport! <3

Hope you guys all had a lovely Valentine's Day!

Toilet Etiquette: Learn How To Queue Please!

Scenario: Last Friday night I was at Sunway Pyramid with B. After watching a movie, we head to the toilet. The woman in front of me was clearly queuing, so I stood behind her. A cubicle goes free so she goes in. Then the next person who enters the toilet just WALKS pass me and goes and stand in front of a cubicle. And then you say to yourself "Seriously? Do you not see me waiting here?"

Sounds familiar? I'm not sure if anyone of you out there have experienced the same thing I have when it comes to queuing for the toilet, but I sure have and am pretty annoyed by it.

THIS is how queuing for the toilet should ideally be:

similarly,

YES people! You stand BEHIND the person who is ALSO waiting to go to the loo.
Because there are SOME people who just do not have the habit of queuing!

Like come on, can't you see that I'm also patiently waiting for a cubicle to be free? So don't friggin be so ignorant and walk pass me and stand in front of a cubicle and wait.
You will get your chance to release your bladder/bowel unless you really need it in which case, you could have the courtesy to ask the persons who's in front if you could jump the line because your bladder/bowel is about to explode.

I guess maybe this book will help you:

Learn some toilet etiquette please!

Too Busy

It's been too busy for me this semester to find the time to blog.
However, what I have been getting into is..... Twitter.

Ever since Twitter first came out, I always had the mind-set of "I'm not getting a Twitter account - EVER". Simply because, I see it very pointless, updating pointless status.

But, ever since starting to use a smartphone.... Twitter has been quite awesome.
You can update whenever you want to and feel like it.

Twitter has been my morning newspaper because I am following NEWS site like CNN, The Star, BBC News so I'm not so behind on the current world issue.

So I guess I am a hypocrite for now having a Twitter account when I told myself that I won't ever get one.
I update my Twitter more than I do on here....

If you have a Twitter account, you can find me @Yinny91

What a Week!

A new semester commenced and although it has only been 3 weeks into the new semester, it has been busy! But do not underestimates the ND1/09 because even though we may be nerds during time we need to study, we also know how to have fun!

Beginning of the week I was working trying to get MNT Menu Planning done for our diverticulosis patient. By the end of the week I was.....

1) Watching my housemates put up CNY decoration for our house.

2) Wearing red and in our ND1/09 class picture with the lecturer

3) Had CNY Reunion Dinner with the ND1/09s

4) Did some exercise...

5) Had a girls night out chit-chatting away

c) Celebrated early birthday for the birthday boy! Had lunch at Ficelle Went to the Beanieplex at Sunway Pyramid. Happy 22nd Birthday Mr. Yuvanes ~ Coincidently, this year Chinese New Year's Eve fall on his birthday... so we had to celebrate early.

d) Flew back to Penang for Chinese New Year. On the plane, there was a bunch of funny cabin crew who joked with us on different occasions.

Scenario 1:
Air hostess: "...This is a non-smoking flight. For those who wish to smoke, please do it outside"

Scenario 2:
About to demonstrate to the passengers about how the seat belt works
Air hostess: *shows the seat belt* "Ladies and Gentle, THIS is a seatbelt" -.-

Scenario 3:
Demonstrating the use of the emergency oxygen mask and what to do when there's smoke present
Air hostess: "...pull the mask towards you and place it over your head, pull the straps tight tight tight tight *with an echoy effect*

Air hostess: "...if smoke is present, please stay low low low low" *with an echo-y effect"

Scenario 4
About to land and wanting to thank the passengers for choosing AirAsia
Air hostess: *starts singing Wherever You Go by Bryan Adams*...and then only thank us.
Passengers: *applauded*

HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAH!

Definitely what a week - which ended on a high note :)
15 days of Chinese New Year is here!

Newspaper nails

So I've been wanting to try this out: Newspaper nails.
Originally, the only way I knew was to use alcohol for it; and since I didn't have it I couldn't do them.
BUT
now you can do it with MOUTHWASH!
like Listerine.
how amazing!

So what I did:

STEP 1: Find newspaper with lot of text

STEP 2: Cut/Rip the text into little pieces

STEP 3: Pick a light colour nail polish

I picked the purple colour

STEP 4: Apply the nail colour until you get the opaqueness

I did 2 layers

STEP 5: When its dry, submerge your nails into the mouthwash

STEP 6: Take a piece of the text and apply pressure onto your nails

Continue doing this for all your nails.....

Et voila, the end product

I experimented with different size font.

Use cotton-buds to wipe off the side of your nail which also got newspaper imprinted on with nail polish remover.

Very happy with my nails. So pretty :)

Apparently, you can also do the same but this time with WATER
check out the video

Go try it!
